License to Grill

National BBQ Week is now in its 23rd year and begins on Monday 27th May and finishes on Saturday 2nd June 2019? Did you know?  Neither did we, but that’s all the excuse we need to clean off the barbecue, hunt out the weird cooking implements collected over past summers, wash down the garden furniture and get ready for some outdoor living.

After last summer’s sizzling temperatures, we live in hope of a repeat but hey, this is Great Britain, there are no guarantees when it comes to the weather, or anything else for that matter. Will this stop us making the most of the great outdoors?  Of course not!

All things considered, this seems the perfect time to indulge in a bit of alfresco dining and we’re in the perfect place to do just that in one of the Estate’s holiday cottages, Axen Lodge. The garden here really lends itself to outdoor living, with lots of grassy areas to enjoy, a trampoline for fun, a huge elevated deck just perfect for entertaining and, of course, a hot tub tucked away in a corner of the garden where you can really relax, enjoy a refreshing glass of something sparkling and take in the magnificent surroundings.

With outdoor entertaining in mind, we have manoeuvred the large gas fired barbeque into a corner of the deck to make sure the cook is rewarded for their labours by being able to cook with uninterrupted views of the beautiful, rolling Dorset countryside. The larger of the two lawns is set up for post-barbeque games and the smaller lawn is reserved for some gentle relaxation. With the food preparation finished, a fully laden table, drinks perfectly chilled and enough food to feed a small army, we’re ready to go! And, best of all, we don’t
need to worry about the neighbours because there aren’t any. Freedom at last!

Happy times, happy holidays!
