National Cleaning Week

National Cleaning Week, 24th to 30th March, is an initiative to help us kick start our Spring cleaning and start getting our houses in order after the long winter hibernation! However, at Symondsbury Estate it’s also the perfect opportunity to show our appreciation for our housekeeping team. They play an invaluable role in keeping our holiday cottages and the whole Estate spick and span so that everyone, from holiday cottage guests and day visitors through to staff, enjoy their time with us here. They work really hard and do an incredible job so we want to say a massive THANK YOU to them all for everything that they do.

To mark National Cleaning Week, our Housekeepers have pooled their knowledge to share with us some of their top tips for making your space sparkle:

  • Start with stripping the beds and high dust (door frames, ceiling lights etc) so that you don’t have dust settling on freshly-made beds
  • Begin at the top of the house and work down to the exit so you don’t mess up where you’ve just cleaned
  • Use ash from the fire to clean the glass in your log burner. Apply it with newspaper after mixing it with a little water
  • Toothbrushes are a housekeeper’s best friend! They are perfect for getting into nooks and crannies
  • Ensure you look up high and down low as you clean or you can miss things
  • If you buy bathroom cleaner spray, make sure it has descaler in it
  • Use cotton wool buds to clean vents in bathrooms
  • Microfibre cloths are the superheroes of the cleaning world – from dusting and buffing taps through to leaving shower screens sparkling and giving a smear-free shine to mirrors.
