Initially the home of the head quarryman at nearby Sloes Hill quarry, this golden, chocolate box cottage then became the hub of the village, lived in for years by postmaster Willy Tuck and his wife.

The two of them ran a shop here, along with an orchard and smallholding on the land and also chickens and cows close by. Built in the early 1900s, every quirky curve and dip in the property’s walls tells the stories of generations past. Set in a beautiful private garden that wraps all the way around, it’s a great place for a family or group of friends to experience the slow pace of life in one of Dorset’s most picturesque villages.

The Old Post Office Overview

Flinging back the double gates and heading into the tranquil garden, you’ll feel the calm of village life wash over you. Once inside, you can snuggle up in the cosy sitting room in front of the log fire, read a book, play Monopoly or enjoy homecooked meals at the vintage-style oak table in the kitchen diner with views across the village. Upstairs, the cosy bedrooms with Liberty-inspired fabrics and deep, comfy beds are the dream for a good night’s sleep. With a secluded outside terrace in which to relax, plus a delightful, detached games room for ping pong tournaments, you’ll find all the R&R you need here. Plus, a short stroll will bring you to the heart of Symondsbury Estate where you can pick up provisions or eat out in our café.

Then explore the meandering trails on the Estate that reveal breathtaking views of the Jurassic Coast, or plunge into the depths of our ancient holloways where you’ll gaze in wonder at the carvings and towering trees that soar above. Plus, if you’re looking for a place to holiday with friends, but would like your own space too, you can book it with Duck Street Cottage (directly opposite) to accommodate 7 people in total.
