Oak Cottage is a splendid example of early 20th-century Arts & Crafts architecture, a style celebrated for its emphasis on handcrafted details, quality materials and a deep appreciation for nature.
Built by Thomas Alfred Colfox, the great-grandfather of Symondsbury Estate’s current owner, Philip Colfox, it originally served as a home for Estate workers. Set at he edge of what was once the expansive Mill Orchard, the cottage offers views of numerous cherry trees and takes its name from the ancient oak trees nearby. Notably, Oak Cottage was one of the first houses in Symondsbury to feature running water and a flushing toilet!
