Grade-II listed Eagle’s Nest was originally called Higher Moorbath, a small farm perched high in the hills with fields full of sheep, cattle, horses and some arable land.
It also used to host lively lunches for partridge shoots that were held late into the last century. However, these days the bountiful birdlife is appreciated more by birdwatchers who delight in observing the ravens nesting in the Scotch pines, the many yellowhammers that live in the woods and a very rare breeding pair of firecrests who nest in the ivy that rambles up the fir trees. The first house to be renovated into a holiday cottage by Symondsbury Estate, Eagle’s Nest is so picturesque that it originally graced the front cover of the English Holiday Cottages brochure for the UK.
