Wedding Wednesday

wedding couple at the tithe barn

Megan and Garon are two very lucky people. Fortunate to have met and fallen in love and then if that’s not enough winning, what must possibly be every couples dream, a free wedding reception in the stunning location kindly donated by Symondsbury Estate Weddings at their Wedding Fayre in October 2017. The coveted prize very nearly passed them by. On arrival at the Fayre Megan was so excited and eager to view the enticing displays and start to plan her wonderful day that she narrowly missed filling in that all essential lucky form.  Megan’s Mother must take all credit for keeping a cool head. (Although we understand how overwhelming it can be planning your wedding, hence, all help is at hand from the wedding team here at Symondsbury).

This story has a wonderful twist insofar as Megan is a local lass who grew up in Symondsbury and attended the village school, so it really was a case of ‘Coming Home to Get Married’. Garon sells extremely high-end cars, whilst Megan works as a PE teacher both now living in Wellington, Somerset.

I popped into the barn prior to the wedding, it was wonderfully cool, light and airy. It looked stunning with its pristine linen tablecloths and delicate cane chairs. The mellow colour of the local stone walls, flagstone floors and the stripped back beams added to what must surely be a venue oozing with character and style yet offering a venue space bang up to date. Ample spacious loos, a chill out mezzanine area, dancefloor and a well-stocked bar including, I just happened to notice, its very own rather enticing Gin & Tonic Menu. Outside it has a small covered seating area, a large wooden table and benches just before the sloping lawn on which there are three mature oak trees. Young olive trees sit daintily in pots whilst the borders are well maintained and stock a variety of flowers and plants.

The beauty of the Tithe Barn as a venue for your event/party is that it is easy to stamp your own personality on the already marvellous bones of the building unleashing your own creativity and style. Each guest had by their place setting honey produced from Megan’s Father’s hives in Symondsbury whilst her Mother had made jam from her own fruit.  Splashes of colour were added by wonderful displays of summer flowers.

The unique setting of Symondsbury village did the wedding party proud. Azure blue skies with clouds scurrying and billowing over the hills and church tower in a picture perfect traditional English village. The Symondsbury Church is a two-minute walk from the Tithe Barn, so guests can leave their cars beforehand in the ample free car park on the Estate and stroll leisurely to the service.

The church bells started to peel in the distance as the wedding event organiser carefully checked every last-minute detail. Chilled bubbly began to be poured along with the lighting of the barbeque as wedding excitement rippled in the air. The bride and groom’s Mother’s appeared in a sleek white Maserati at the wooden entrance gates. Guests began to arrive and mingle gathering in the sheltered spot outside. Then the Bride and Groom arrived, the stars of the show, pulling up in a fetching blue VW van and making a romantic entrance as only newly married couples can. Garon was looking dashing in tails whilst Megan looked dreamy in a figure-hugging lace dress which billowed out behind her in the gentle breeze.

The photographer was darting about capturing the unique moments of the day. It’s something I try to do through words, so I positioned myself next to an elderly lady and quietly surveyed the scene with her. We got talking, (as you do) and she told me she had lived in Bridport all her life, 88 years of it apparently. I asked her why she had never moved away. She looked directly at me as though I were mad. ‘I’ve never felt the need to’ and the simplicity of her reply moved me. Sometimes all we need is right here on our doorsteps, it can be as simple as that.

We wish Garon and Megan all the happiness and prosperity for their future together.
